Welcome to Greenwich

Established in 1642, Greenwich has ranked the most desirable city (population 50,000 or greater) in the state. The numerous factors considered included the quality of education, the strength of the economy, the cost of living, the low crime rate, and leisure and cultural amenities. This comes as no surprise to many as Greenwich is commonly recognized both in the state and nationally, as providing its residents with a quality of life surpassed by few other communities.

Greenwich is a town of approximately 63,000 residents living within fifty square miles situated in the southwestern corner of the state. This location provides professionals in Greenwich with the shortest commute to New York City, by car or train, compared to any other Connecticut suburb.

The housing variety and neighborhood diversity of Greenwich result in a rich and uniquely woven, high-quality residential community. In the southern reaches of the Town, closely knit, highly interactive neighborhoods are interspersed with private communities, each meeting the individual residents’ needs and desires. Old colonial and Victorian homes mingle with Tudors and contemporaries to form an eclectic blend of architectural styles. Numerous of the town’s neighborhoods evolved from turn-of-the-century summer resort enclaves including the old mansions of the period. Most of these “Grand Dames” have been lovingly restored and add much to the historic mystique of Greenwich.

Situated along beautiful Long Island Sound, the Greenwich shoreline is dotted with scenic harbors, enticing islands, secluded coves, and sandy beaches affording the best in year-round living and recreation. These waterfront areas in conjunction with those in the backcountry, contribute to a diverse selection of recreational facilities. The town operates over 1,400 acres of parkland and conservation areas, including two shoreline beaches, two island beaches, a new town pool, over 10 public parks, boat mooring areas, an 18-hole golf course, and numerous tennis courts.
